A local resident has informed us of a credit card scam that recently took place in the car park in Wilson Close, Upminster (behind Aldi).

A man, who appeared to have just purchased a ticket, approached two elderly people and told them that the ticket machine was not accepting coins but only credit cards. The man but offered to assist them use the machine, which led them to inserting two separate bank cards into what is believed to be a device fitted to the ticket machine.

The cards were retained and within minutes significant sums were withdrawn from both banks accounts.

Please be aware of such scams. If you believe you have been (or may have been) a victim, contact your bank immediately to cancel the card(s) and also report what has happened to the police.
