The new NHS COVID-19 app, that is part of the NHS Test and Trace system, only works on phones with newer operating systems.
An estimated 30% of phones in the UK do not have versions of Android or Apple iOS able to use the app and although many phones will be too old to change to a newer system, there is a significant number who may be able to update.
