Havering Council’s ‘Housing Allocations Scheme’ sets out how the council prioritises access to available social housing, for households on the council’s Housing Register.
The council have launched a consultation on proposals to change the qualification criteria. The main changes proposed are listed below –
- Applicants will be required to demonstrate a continuous residency of ten years in the borough of Havering, rather than the current six years.
- A residency exemption will be granted to applicants of refugee status or of traveller background of five years, subject to them meeting certain criteria.
- To raise the gross income threshold for applicants from £36,000 to £50,000.
- Change the savings limit to £30,000.
Residents and other interested parties can give their views via the online Housing Allocations Scheme survey, which will be open until 04 April 2021.
