Following a recent enquiry, Residents’ Association councillors contacted Havering Council to ask about parking permits for tradesmen, such as builders or removals firms, and damage caused to pavements by vehicles. Below is a summary of the council’s reply –

‘The fine for damaging a pavement is now £658.

Parking waivers can be used by a removal company, builder or contractor to suspend a parking bay for their use. They allow all day parking in restricted areas, such as resident bays, business bays, pay and display bays on yellow lines etc.

To apply they will need to provide:

  • Details of the business, such as name and address
  • Reason for the waiver
  • Location of the waiver – where the work is being carried out
  • Vehicle details, such as registration number, make and model
  • Address for the permit to be sent to
  • The period the waiver should cover
  • Documents confirming the works being carried out, such as a plan or invoice
  • Contact number for a member of staff to call and take payment

The Cost of per parking space per day is:

  • 1 – 7 days £50
  • 8 – 14 days £100
  • 15 days and above £150

Waivers can be applied for via Havering Council’s Parking bay suspensions webpage.’
